The Coma Cluster (Abell 1656) is a giant cluster of galaxies in Coma Berenices. There are more than 1000 galaxies identified in this cluster which is similar to the Virgo cluster of galaxies that our own Milky Way belongs to. Each galaxy, like ours, is its own mini-universe and they range from small spirals and ellipticals to giant irregulars that have become amorphous because of merging together.

The Coma Cluster is measured to be about 336 million light-years away and this is clearly the deepest image I’ve ever tried.

This RGB project combines about 10 hrs of data.
